The Georgia Logistics Summit on Feb. 8 drew 1,600 people from 28 U.S. states and around the world in its fourth year in Atlanta.
The summit addresses the issues facing the state's logistics industry. This year's speakers included Curtis Spencer, president and CEO of IMS Worldwide, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and Curtis Foltz, executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority, among others.
Mr. Spencer gave an overview of a variety of topics affecting the logistics industry, especially how changing retail habits are changing the way goods move.
Mr. Foltz gave an update on the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project, the effort to deepen the channel approaching the Port of Savannah to prepare for larger ships expected to pass through an expanded Panama Canal in 2014. Panama Canal Authority CEO Alberto Aleman Zubieta spoke at the MODEX conference, with which the logistics summit shared a location: the Georgia World Congress Center.
A U.S. Commercial Service official led a panel of experts from Brazil, Mexico and Turkey, who offered insights on trade trends in their markets, according to a news release.
Page Siplon, executive director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics, also spoke at the event.
