Turkey will connect to the European electrical grid this month using technology supplied by Atlanta-based GE Energy.
GE's smart-grid technology will allow the Turkish Electricity Transmission Co. to buy and sell power in the European market, according to a GE news release. GE Energy is a unit of General Electric Co.
"There is a demand for renewable energy in European countries, and Turkey has massive renewable energy sources, which makes this new relationship mutually beneficial," the news release said.
GE's technology will improve the reliability of Turkey's electric service, reducing outages, the company said.
