Airport Train Gets Its Name

Atlanta - 08.10.10

Don Auensen of Marietta edged out more than 600 other entrants in a social-media contest to name the automated people mover train at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

From now on, the 30-year-old train, which ferries passengers between the airport's five concourses, will be known as "The Plane Train," Hartsfield Interim General Manager Robert Kennedy announced Aug. 10.

"Calling it The Plane Train seemed right," Mr. Auensen said in an airport news release. "I knew the airport wasn't looking for a silly name. I didn't know what else it could be, because The Plane Train says what it does."

In December, the airport unveiled another train, the ATL SkyTrain, which connects travelers with the airport's consolidated car rental facility and on to the Georgia International Convention Center.
