French-American theater troupe launches new play at Emory.

Théâtre du Rêve, the Atlanta-based French-language theater company, is performing the world premiere of a play based on the writings of French-Swiss playwright Valère Novarina Jan. 15-17 and Jan. 22-24 at the Performing Arts Studio of Emory University.

The play, L’Acteur Sacrifiant (The Sacrificing Actor), was developed last year by the theater troupe with the author both in Atlanta and in Limoges, France, during its Festival des Francophonies.

Mr. Novarina is known in Europe for redefining his audiences theatrical experiences with active, witty performances rather than psychological conflict.

L’Acteur Sacrifiant, however, does explore cross-cultural issues in keeping with the troupe’s mission of creating a dialogue between American and French-speaking artists and bringing live theater and the French language and Francophone culture to students of all ages.

Three French actors join the Atlanta actors Chris Kayser, Park Krausen and Eliana Marianes in the performance.

It is directed by the Belgian, Valery Warmotte, who also directed the Théâtre du Rêve’s rendition of Voir un ami Pleurer at the 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta.

Théâtre du Rêve was founded in 1995 and has performed in various cities in the U.S. and abroad. It also provides educational outreach through its École des Réves programs.

The theater troupe collaborated with the High Museum of Art during the three-year Louvre-Atlanta partnership and has received acclaimed reviews of its performances Les Fables de La Fontaine and Voir un ami Pleurer.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $15-$20. More information and tickets are available at www.theatredureve.com or by calling 404-875-3829.
